UAS Eelgrass Surveys in Portland Harbor, Maine

Fort Gorges, Portland Harbor, Maine

In the depths of Maine winter, always nice to look back at summer photos, and think of warmer weather soon to come. During UAS survey of eelgrass this past summer in Portland Harbor, Maine, we captured this scene of Fort Gorges and receding fog bank. Eelgrass is found all along Maine’s coast. This seagrass is a nursery for numerous fish species, an important biological indicator of water quality, and is associated with at least twenty of Maine’s Species of Greatest Conservation Need. Nearview is working with the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership, Southern Maine Community College, Maine Coastal Program, and Maine Dept. of Environmental Protection to develop new methods to detect, map, and monitor the health of eelgrass using UAS. #UAS #dronesforgood #environmentalscience #eelgrass #portlandmaine #fortgorges #cascobay #nearview #drones
